The playground was established to commemorate those from the District who served in World War Two.

Children's Playground, with appropriate fence and gates, is to be Keyneton's tribute to those who served in the last war, and the total cost was expected to be in the vicinity of £200. After satisfying itself as to community unanimity regarding the proposal, the committee feels that it can now be brought nearer materialisation. Mr Eric Rattaey is president; Mr F. I. Heath, hon. sec.; and Mr A. I. Munchenberg, treasurer. District residents are now being invited to make their contributions, and Keyneton will not be living up to its reputation if the required sum is not readily forthcoming. The practical nature of the tribute: the boon it will represent to the children; and the worthwhile achievement at once appeal as a token which will in some measure show appreciation of those who were prepared to give all. And already, the Lindsay Evans Memorial Park is one phase indicative of Keyneton's appreciation and remembrance.

Opening of Keyneton War Memorial Children's Playground at the Lindsay Evans Memorial Recreation Park on Saturday was performed by Col. E. T. Dean, D.S.O., who was introduced by Mr E. A. Rattaey chairman. Col. Dean some years ago unveiled memorial to World War I heroes. Members of Keyneton C.W.A. Branch, who had done magnificent war work, donated the double swings and sandpit. A feature of the afternoon was a married v single football match, the bachelors winning by 2.5 to 2.2, Mr L. Hurn being umpire. Mr Wright acted as compere and gave a running commentary per Mr Doddridge's amplifier. He also officiated at the paddy's market. Sheep estimating was in charge of Mr O. E. Leschke and was won by Mr M. Evans. Gate keepers were Messrs C. J. Parbs and C. Evans. Total takings for the day were £64. Afternoon tea was served by the ladies.
