St Edmunds War Memorial WindowPrint Page Print this page

The memorial window commemorates those connected with the church who died in service or were killed in action during World War Two.

There was a large attendance at a service held in St. Edmund's Church of England, Gunning, on Anzac Day, when a beautiful stained glass window in memory of those from the Gunning District who made the supreme sacrifice in World War II was unveiled by Brigadier Broadbent. The subject of the window is Sir Galahad, truly a fine subject for such a sacred memorial. The inscription thereon is as follows: "A.D.M.G. and in memory of the men of this Parish who laid down their lives for the cause of freedom. 1939-1945. S. Chapple, E. R. Davis, K. B. McCall, G. Jewell, J. E. Bateup, A. T. Power, B. W. R. Prior, W. A. Moore, E. G. Moore, E. J. Walmsley." The dedication service was conducted by the Rev. H. P. Reynolds, Rector of St. Clement's, Yass. He was assisted by Rev. J. G. Donoghue, Rector of Gunning. Relatives of those whose names are inscribed on the memorial and many returned men of both world wars, were present. Following upon this service, the annual Anzac Day Memorial Eucharist was celebrated.
