The monument commemorates the five airman of No 1 AIP Navigation School Royal Australian Air Force (R.A.A.F.) Parkes who were killed when Avro Anson Aircraft No A4-5 crashed near Glenbrook during World War Two. 

It was upgraded in 2019 by the Blue Mountains Shire Council at the request of the Glenbrook and District Historical Society. The plaque was restored and mounted on a larger, new bushrock.

On January 28, 1941 an Avro Anson aircraft No A4-5 Of No 1 AIP Navigation School RAAF Parkes, crashed in this area  whilst enroute from Parkes to Mascot on a medical evacuation flight. All five airmen on board perished in the crash.
