Crookwell Shire Memorial Centre Print Page
The Crookwell Shire Memorial Centre commemorates those from the district who served in World War Two. The centre was erected on the site of the old School of Arts and was officially opened on the 10th October 1954.
At a meeting held last night, the sub-committee appointed to conclude arrangements for Crookwell`s important remembrance Ceremony on Sunday next finalised arrangements for the laying of the foundation stone of the War Memorial Centre and for suitable observances at Memorial Gates at 2.30 p.m. Next Sunday was specially chosen an Crookwell's day of Remembrance to coincide with the visit of Lt. Col. Anderson, V.C., M.C., to set tho foundation stone of the building that will embody the aspirations of those who for long have sought to establish some visable evidence of gratitude to those who served their country during the Second World War and satisfy the social and cultural needs of Crookwell in the years to come. The committee is hopeful that town and district residents will gather in their numbers to participate in this expression of Remembrance on Sunday next to the servicemen and women of both wars. Should the weather prove unfavourable the ceremony will be moved into the old hall at the Denison Street site of the new Memorial building.
