Burren Junction District Roll of HonourPrint Page
The roll of honour commemorates those from the district who served in World War Two.
Despite cold windy weather, a large crowd attended Burren Junction School of Arts hall on Saturday morning to welcome His Excellency the Governor, Sir John Northcott and to be present at the unveiling of the Roll of Honour to the memory of members of the armed forces who paid the supreme sacrifice during the 1939-45 war and also those who served in the armed forces during that time. His Excellency inspected a guard of honour, comprising exservicemen who came mainly from the Burren Junction area, but ex-servicemen from Narrabri, Wee Waa and Rowena were also present. On his arrival at the School of Arts, following the National Anthem, His Excellency was welcomed by the President of the Walgett Shire, Cr. H E C. Fuller. He was supported in the welcome by Cr. E K. Vickery, President of the Namoi Shire Council. Mrs. R. G. Saddington, President of the Burren Junction C.W.A., presented Miss Northcott with a beautifully decorated basket of oranges. Responding to the welcome Sir John Northcott said it was a pleasure to visit the outback parts of N.S.W. where the people were doing such a magnificent job. Following a short service conducted by the Rev. C R. Evans, His Excellency unveiled the Honour Roll. The Last Post was sounded by Mr M. P. Hulbert, of Narrabri. Proceedings concluded with the playing of the National Anthem.
