The entrance gate at the School of Arts commemorates those from the District who served in World War Two. The gates list the names of those who lost their lives in the conflict.
One of the largest gatherings seen in Federal was present at the unveiling ceremony of the Memorial Gates at the School of Arts. Visitors were present from Murwillumbah, Burringbar, Casino, Lismore and Kempsey. Rev. H. G. Ingate, of Clunes, was chairman. Mr. S. Virtue, of Bexhill, played the accompaniments for hymns, and Mr. Anthony, of Possum Crgek, was bugler. The unveiling of the gates was performed by Mrs. H. Perry, mother of one of the two local boys who were killed in World War II. Rev. N. Monsen, of Clunes, delivered the address, for which he took the text from St. Paul's Epistle to the Romans: "Trouble produces endurance; endurance produces character; character produces hope."
"Basically," said Mr. Monsen, "I believe the young blood of our nation went out into the unknown in order to establish and maintain moral order in a morally corrupt world. They, in other words, served God." The ceremony of Commemoration of the Fallen, and dedication of the Memorial Gates was performed by Rev. C. Saunders, of Bangalow, who spoke highly of the two men from Federal, Aden Perry and J. H. ("Jock") Young. After two minutes' silence, the bugler sounded the Last Post. The flag was raised and the Reveille played. The ceremony closed with Kipling's "Recessional". The function was followed by a picnic lunch in the School of Arts grounds.
