The memorial commemorates those from Moyhu, Meadow Creek, Bobinawarrah and Hurdle Creek who served in World War Two.

The memorial features an honour roll containing 102 names.

A project to complete the second stage of a war memorial at the Moyhu Lions Park is well underway, with funding and community support being sought through the Pick My Project State Government initiative. The endeavor which is being driven by Moyhu’s George Snowling, will see a Second World War memorial added to the site, opposite the World War 1 memorial - complete with its honour board, rifle silhouette and trench, unveiled in 2015.

Mr Snowling said he and his “handyman” project partner were driven to pay their respects publicly to all those who served and to do it in a way which appropriately reflected their patriotism.

He said the adjacent memorial would include an honour board featuring the 102 names he’d discovered from around the district after a long period of research, a solar water feature and a distinctive design which would remain a secret until it is revealed.

“It’s something completely different and I think it really hits the spot,” he said. “The people whose names appear, they were prepared to enlist and to go overseas and to sacrifice their lives for our country - it’s up to me to honour their patriotism.”

Mr Snowling said he hoped the completed memorial at the teardrop-shaped site, where there is also a seat, would offer people a place for quiet reflection.

“If people are feeling a little down or depressed, they can spend some time there and remember those who offered their lives to protect us,” he said. “I often wonder how they got over what they experienced over there - and I can understand why many of them didn’t talk about what happened when they came back.”
