Glengarry Honour RollPrint Page
The wooden honour roll which contains a clock commemorates those who served in World War Two. The clock commemorates those who died in service or were killed in action in that war.
First village to record the honor roll to those who served during the 1939-45 war must be accorded the Glengarry people. On Thursday last, in the presence of the teachers and children of the Glengarry and Glengarry West schools, the honor roll containing the names of all those who had served was unveiled, in conjunction with a memorial plaque to those who paid the supreme sacrifice. The honor roll contained 56 names, and the memorial plaque the names of M. Chambers, K. G. King and A. A. Saunders, who gave their lives for their country. Representative of the Avon Shire Council, Cr. D. N. Christensen, and Mr. W. O. Fulton, president of the Australian Natives' Association, were welcomed by the president of the Glengarry War Memorial Committee (Mr. W. B. Lane).
Cr. Christensen said that he was pleased to see that Glengarry had seen fit to honor those who had so valiantly served their country at its time of need. It was with mixed feelings that he attended the ceremony, and he trusted that the sacrifice of those who had not returned would not be in vain. The unveiling ceremony was carried out by Mr. Fulton, who gave a short address on service to the country. Mr. Lane moved a vote of thanks after the ceremony, and particularly referred to the ladies who had catered, the school teachers for their co-operation, and to the secretary of the committee (Mr. Coates) for his sterling work.
