Empire Day was honoured at Tuckurimba with a ceremony at the school linked with the unveiling of the district honour roll. The occasion saw every district family represented at the school, as well as may visitors, and the school was thanked to accommodate the gathering. Mr. George Hunt, who presided, welcomed the guests. He pointed to the proud record of service to the Empire the district could claim in the recent war. The children, led by Barbara Betrell, sang a bracket of four songs of the British Isles. Barry Leadbeatter read the Empire Day message from the President of the Royal Empire Society. The children sang a bracket of three Australasian songs. In an address, Rev. Crossman stressed the need to maintain the strength of the ties of the Empire in a world where many countries would gladly see the Empire destroyed. The honour roll, which bears the names of 31 men and women, was unveiled by Mrs. Henry McCaughey, representing the wives and mothers of the district. Mr. N. Baker said the school was honoured to be the housing place for the honour roll, and he hoped the names on it would be an inspiration to present and future pupils.
