Miva Anzac Day Service
A large crowd gathered at the Anzac service, held in the Miva C.W.A. restroom on Sunday morning at 11 a.m. At the beginning of the service the chairman, Mr. A. Nahrung, asked Mr. J. Heading, M.L.A., to unveil the new honour board, on which the names of servicemen and women who enlisted from the Miva, Theebine and Kangan districts in World War II are inscribed. This beautiful honour board was presented to the citizens of the district by the members of the Miva Rifle Club. After the Rev. Horton had consecrated the board, it was officially handed over by the captain of the rifle club, Mr. P. Day, who said that he hoped the honour board would remain an everlasting tribute to those who served their country and particularly those who paid the supreme sacrifice.
During the service addresses were given by Mr. Heading and Rev. Horton. Mr A. W. Nahrung moved the uniform resolution, which was seconded by Mrs. Dakin on behalf of the C.W.A. Mrs. R. Sexton rendered a solo and Gail Jenkins, a recitation. Mrs. A. R. Kunst was accompanist for the hymn singing. Mr. W. H. Sawer read the names on the World War I honour board and Mr. W. Strawbridge, those on the World War II board. At the conclusion of the service Mr. W. H. Sawer thanked the members of the C.W.A. for again managing the Anzac service and supplying luncheon for those present.
