The Huonville War Memorial was a child welfare centre and kindergarten which was erected in memory of those who served in World War Two. The building now is the headquarters of The Huonville RSL Sub-Branch.
Work on the construction of Huonville's war memorial-a child welfare centre and kindergarten will begin within six months, the chairman (Mr. A. C. Parsons) told a meeting of the memorial committee at Huonville on Thursday night. Referring to the offer of the Premier (Mr. Cosgrove) to provide up to £6,000 for the two separate buildings on the memorial site fronting the main street, Mr. Parsons said, Mr. W. H. Krause, a Huonville builder, had stated he would tender for the building, which was now to be constructed of concrete blocks. The Premier's letter stated that the buildings would be furnished by the Government with the exception of a piano for the pre-school centre and equipment.

The chairman of the Huonville War Memorial Committee (Mr. A. C. Parsons) yesterday laid the foundation stone of the town's war memorial - a child welfare centre - before a representative gathering. Mr. Parsons said the clinic should be ready for use within six months. He paid tribute to the work of women residents in raising a large sum towards the cost of the building; and also thanked the Government for its contribution.
