Drysdale Bellarine Shire Honour Roll Print Page
The honour roll commemorates those from the shire who served in World War One.
Although several of the smaller centres in the Shire of Bellarine have their honor boards, the Shire Council has not. At yesterdays meeting the president, Cr. Dean, stated that the time had come to place in the council hall at Drysdale a large honor board containing the names of all the soldiers who enlisted from the Shire. He suggested a subscription list should be opened immediately to defray the expense of erecting a board. He promised to head the list with £2/10 -. Crs Walter and Armytage favored the council erecting the board from out of its own funds. All councillors considered a fine board should be constructed without delay. The estimated cost is between £40 and £50. The council will arrange necessary details.

The placing of an honor roll in the Bellarine Shire Hall at Drysdale to commemorate the patriotism of the young men from the district who served in the late war, came up for discussion in the council meeting yesterday. The project was decided upon some time ago but delayed through the difficulty in getting a complete list of names. Councillors were amazed to find that it ran into several hundreds, Moolap alone providing 125. However, arrangements were finalised yesterday, and the work will be executed immediately. There are already public memorials at Drysdale, Portarlington. and St. Albans to the memory of those who fell, but it is considered fitting to have all who went to the front officially remembered.
