The honour roll commemorates those from Strathalbyn District who served in World War One.

A largely attended meeting of the general committee and others interested in the forthcoming Strathalbyn Day was held in the Institute on Friday evening, Feb. 28, the Mayor (Mr.J. W. Elliott), presiding, supported by the chairman of the district council (Mr. C H. Dunn), the gathering including a number of outside people as well as those resident in the town.

The subject of a roll of honour for the town and district of Strathalbyn was introduced by Mr. Jackson, when it was explained that to the generosity of two of their townspeople that was being provided for in very handsome way. The ex-mayor, Mr. Jas. Bell, then said that though he had not intended to make any announcement until the roll of honour was ready he felt that it would be opportune for him to confirm the statement by telling them that he and Mrs. Bell had arranged to give the town such a memorial of the lads who had enlisted, and when it came to hand he felt sure it would meet with approval.

The design  been agreed to long ago, and the work was in the hands of Pengilley and Co., and when it came to hand the Institute Committee had agreed to give it prominent place in the Hall. This announcement was received with hearty applause.
