Dear Monument Australia visitors, we are a self-funded, non-profit organisation, dedicated to recording monuments throughout Australia. Over time the costs of maintaining this website have risen substantially (in fact they are probably larger than those of many companies who exist for profit). In the past we have borne all the costs associated with maintaining the website but we are now having difficulties in paying the monthly expenses.
If Monument Australia is useful to you, please make a donation to keep this historical and educational resource available. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

The Wilderness School Roll of HonourPrint Page

The brass honour roll commemorates former students of the school who served in World War One.
The Wilderness School was begun in 1884 by Miss Margaret Brown teaching three girls and one boy at her parents’ house which was known as Miss Brown’s School. As student numbers grew the School became known as Medindie School and Kindergarten and in 1918 officially changed its name to Wilderness School, having been referred to informally as The Wilderness since 1893 when the School moved to its current site. Up to the middle of the 20th Century boys were able to attend until they were aged about 8 years old. Today the School only enrols girls.
