35th Infantry Battalion Print Page 
The plaque commemorates those who served with the 35th Infantry Battalion during World War One.
The Battalion was raised in late 1915, the bulk of the battalion’s recruits were drawn from the Newcastle region and thus it was dubbed “Newcastle’s Own”. R eflecting the demographics of the area, there were a high proportion of miners among the battalion’s original members.
During World War One the battalion saw service on the Western Front in France and Belgium before being disbanded in 1919.
