Dear Monument Australia visitors, we are a self-funded, non-profit organisation, dedicated to recording monuments throughout Australia. Over time the costs of maintaining this website have risen substantially (in fact they are probably larger than those of many companies who exist for profit). In the past we have borne all the costs associated with maintaining the website but we are now having difficulties in paying the monthly expenses.
If Monument Australia is useful to you, please make a donation to keep this historical and educational resource available. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Memorial Park Honour AvenuePrint Page

The Avenue of Norfolk Pine trees in the Memorial Park honour those from the district who fell in World War One. Each tree has a plaque commemorating the fallen soldier with one plaque recording three names from the same family.
This afternoon at the Buckland Hill Memorial Park in Francis-street, the ceremony of planting trees to border an honour avenue will be performed. Each of the trees will be planted in memory of fallen soldier, and the honour avenue will lead from the main entrance to the park in Francis-street to a court of honour on high ground overlooking Mosman Bay and commanding a magnificent view of the Swan River. The first tree will be planted by Lieut General Sir J. Talbot Hobbs, who will also address the gathering.
The West Australian (Perth), 25th August 1934.
