Harvey & Wokalup Honour RollPrint Page Print this page

Two matching large carved wooden honour rolls with individual brass name plates, commemorates those who served in World War One.

At a public meeting on the 10th July 1915, a proposal was put forward by Mr Nicholas that two specially designed panels should be placed in the Hall with the names of those who had gone to the Front. Space would be left to record those killed or wounded and the panels would form a permanent memorial when the war was ended. So as not to cause confusion as the duration of the war was unknown, a Mr Gisborne proposed that the names be recorded on a parchment roll which should be kept at the Roads Board Office and then the record would be embodied in a permanent memorial. This suggestion was favoured by the majority at the meeting and Mr Nicholas's suggestion that subscriptions should be taken up for the honour roll was endorsed.
