Parramatta High School Roll of HonourPrint Page
The wooden honour roll commemorates masters, students and former students of the school who served in World War One. Additional names were added to the roll at a later date.
There was a great turnout at the Parramatta High School on Wednesday afternoon on the occasion of the unveiling of the honor board by the Mayoress (Mrs. F. J. Thomas). The board was presented to the school by Mr. W. J. Morey. The Mayor of Parramatta presided and others on the dais were Revs. S .M. Johnstone and T. B. Holmes, Messrs. W. L. Atkins (headmaster), and R. Hunt. The board, which was unveiled by the Mayoress to the accompaniment of cheers from the pupils, contains the names of three masters and 14 pupils.
Handsome presentations were made by the Mayor to Trooper; E. L. Atkins and Trooper Ormond Lake,who were present in khaki, and also to Private A. Saundercock, who was unable to be present. Mr. Richard Hunt also handed his prize of £1/1/- to Miss Dorothy Nichol as the most successful candidate in the recent examinations, and the staff gave Miss Eunice Killip a similar prize for being a close second. Refreshments were served in the gymnasium. The proceedings throughout were very enthusiastic.
