St Matthew`s Honour RollPrint Page 
The honour roll consists of two boards commemorating those from the parish who served in World War One.
"Of all the places in New South Wales, none has a prouder record of war service than Manly," said Lord Forster, prior to unveiling two rolls of honour at St. Matthew's Church of England, Manly, yesterday afternoon. "Manly's response was only in keeping with the old British character. In the early days of the strife anxious eyes in England were turned to the kinsmen overseas, and it was asked, 'Will they come' ? The answer was recorded in the doings of Australia's sons throughout the war. By their deeds Australia stands a free nation among nations.
The two honour rolls, bearing 400 names of those from St. Matthew's parish, 100 of which are of men who fell, are artistic creations of Queensland maple, placed at the western end of the nave. Chaplain A. G. Stoddart, rector of St. Matthew's, presided, and the large assembly included Lady Forster, Captain Traill, Mr. R. W. D. Weaver, M.L.A., and the Mayor and aldermen of Manly. After the ceremony Lord Forster, assisted by Lleut.-Col. E. F. Monro, D.S.O., distributed 30 medals to ex-service men.
