58th Battalion & 7th Battalion Commemorative PanelsPrint Page Print this page

The panels commemorate members of the Essendon Rifles 58th Infantry Battalion and members of the 7th Battalion who served in World War One.

These panels are a result of the vision of the late Trevor Sinclair, former Mayor of Moonee Valley, and a great contributor to our local community in many different projects.

The panels are a series of information boards which give details of the Essendon Rifles (58th Infantry Battalion), 58th Battalion VC recipient Rupert Vance Moon, Major General Harold "Pompey" Elliott commander of the 7th Battallion, the 7th Battalion and Lance Corporal William Scurry, who invented the self-firing "drip rifle" for which he was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal.
