St Mark`s Anglican Church Memorial WindowsPrint Page Print this page

The stained glass windows commemorate the parishioners who served in World War One. The windows depict St. Matthew, St. Mark, St. Luke and St. John.

Memorial stained glass windows, bearing the names of 240 parishioners of St. Mark's Church, Granville, who served in the Great War were unveiled yesterday, by Major General Sir Chas. Rosenthal, and were dedicated by Bishop Gllbert White. Members of the Australian Field Artillery under Lieut. Taylor formed the guard of honour, which was inspected by Sir Chas. Rosenthal, who was accompanied by Colonel Smlth D.S.O. The Parramatta Lance Band was also in attendance. Referring to the great sacrifices made by the men who gave their lives for the Empire, Sir Chas. Rosenthal said that the thought of that sacrifice might take away any sting the present compulsory mililtary service might have for trainees. Australia was a peaceful nation, but it must have defensive forces. Bishop White took for his text "They met their death under the covenant of everlasting life."
