Balhannah School Roll of HonourPrint Page
The brass honour roll commemorates former students of Balhannah School who served in World War One.
Two honour rolls, containing the names of soldiers who have enlisted for active service—one consisting of 68 names of scholars who have attended the Balhannah State School, and the other of 10 names of residents of the district, but who were not old scholars of the local school— were unveiled on Saturday, 16th inst., at the State School, Balhannah. The Chairman of the School Committee (Mr. J. C. Grasby) introduced the Minister of Education (the Hon. Mr. Harvey), who gave an inspiring address. Mr. H. Dunn, the Chairman of the Mt. Barker District Council, also addressed the meeting and distributed medals to the parents of returned soldiers, and also to the parents of those who have been killed in action. Other speakers were the Rev. B. Howland, Mr. J. P. Johncock, and Mr. N. Kilmier. Songs were rendered by the school children. Mr. Cullis proposed a vote of thanks to all who helped to make the function such a success. Privates O. Schiever and G. Sandercock, who have been wounded, were heartily welcomed home. Afternoon tea was provided by the ladies.
