A working bee was held on Friday, July 26, to plant trees around Kotta railway station, in honor of Australia's fallen heroes. About 20 men turned out and planted 220 trees-gums, peppers, wattles and some flowering gums. The honor of planting the first tree was given to Mrs. Johnson of Pannoobamawn, a resident of Kotta district for well over 40 years. Each person present had the honor of planting a tree. A vote of thanks was also passed to Mr. Sinclair for having initiated the splendid idea. A board is to be provided and placed in a prominent position with the following words upon it:-"The trees on Kotta station grounds were planted by the residents of the surrounding district on July 26th, 1918, in memory of Australian soldiers who have fallen in the great war. They gave their lives for the freedom and liberty of nations. They are resting in Gallipoli, France, Egypt, and Palestine, but the memory of their sacrifice will always be with us."
On Friday, August 2, the men again turned out to plant 150 trees, kindly given by the railway commissioners. These were planted under the supervision of Mr. Allen, the railways landscape gardener. They were a beautiful lot of trees. Mr. Allen was very industrious and he was very pleased with the idea. He planted a flowering gum in honor of his son who fell on Gallipoli.

In memory of Australian heroes
The trees on Kotta Railway Station ground were planted by the residents of the surrounding district on July 28th. and August 2nd, 1918 in memory of Australian soldiers who have fallen in the Great War.
They gave their lives for freedom and liberty of nations and are at rest on Gallipoli, France, Egypt and Palistine, but the memory of their sacrifice, prized and honoured, shall always be with us.
They were the flower of the worlds manhood and died as they lived, owing no master on earth.
