Darr Creek Roll of HonourPrint Page Print this page

The honour roll commemorates those who served in World War One and World War Two.

As the result of a meeting held some months ago at the Washpool School, promoted by Mr. Peter Fraser and his fellow office bearers, Messrs. E. Davis and L. McCasker, new honour boards will be erected in the Burra- Burri and Darr Creek halls. On Saturday, 12th inst., the unveiling of the honour board at Darr Creek was held in conjunction with a grand ball for which Mrs. Schultz and Messrs. F. Schultz, Wyllie and Neilson supplied excellent music. The district extends thanks to those who contributed in any way towards the function which was a great success as testified by the crowd which thronged the hall. At some future date perhaps the hall committee may enlarge the hall.

Diggers of both wars were represented, and at 10.30 p.m. they marched through a guard of honour and stood before the board. They were Messrs Jim Bocokett, Ronald Mackay, Angus Mclnnes, Norman Proctor (World War I) and Eric Taylor (World War II). Unfortunately many who were invited could not be present. Mr: Nip Hardwick (chairman) introduced the speakers. Mr. Ernest Davis paid tribute to the Diggers of World War I and Mr. Staines to the Diggers of World War II. Mr. McMahon also spoke and Mr. Norman Proctor responded. Mr. Victor Sullivan, senior vicepresident of the Jandowae R.S.S. A.I.LA., performed the unveiling ceremony and received applause for his speech.
