The Soldiers` Memorial was originally erected to commemorate those from the district who served in World War One. The names of those served in World War Two and an honour roll from Westella District were added at a later date. The Westella Honour Roll was originally unveiled in the Westella Hall in 1948.

Over a thousand people attended the unveiling of the Soldiers' Monument at Wongarbon on Saturday last. The monument is a beautiful piece of work, standing 15 ft. high. It is an obelisk, made in reinforced concrete, with marble panels, and the names are inscribed in inlaid lead lettering. There are 49 names on the panels, and there are more to be added. Mr. W. A. Oldham, headmaster of the Wongarbon Public School presided. Among the speakers were Mr. P. M. McGirr, M.L.A., Mr. Inspector Campling, Mr. F. S. Lovett (Maryvale), Cr. J.M. Whiteley (Geurie). About £10 was received in donations towards wiping off the amount owing on the monument. During the afternoon the Wongarbon Band played several selections.
