Graman Honour RollPrint Page Print this page

The honour roll commemorates those who served in World War One, the Vietnam War and the Malayan Emergency.

The roll was originally erected to commemorate those who served in World War One. The names of those who served in Malaya and Vietnam were added to the roll at a later date.

Perhaps one of the best, and undoubtedly the most important, functions ever held at Graman eventuated on Saturday last. An afternoon's horse racing was held, and the proceeds donated to tbe Local Returned Wounded Soldiers' Fund. In the evening Graman was indeed a very lively scene. As soon as the hall door was opened it was packed and for the first time the spacious hall was too small to accommodate the people who had come to witness the unveiling of the Graman Honor Roll. Mr. R. Besley occupied the chair and was loudly applauded as he rose to open the function. After Mr. Besley had finished his opening speech, he called upon Mr. C. McCosker, as representative of the Ashford Shire Council. Mr. McCosker spoke in glowing terms of the Graman soldiers, and congratulated the relatives of the soldiers present on their patriotism.

Mr. O`Connor then addressed the gathering. That gentleman's address was one of the best ever delivered in the Graman Hall. The speaker said the Graman Honor Roll was one of the best he had seen, and it was a credit to the maker (Mr. Smale, of Dinton Vale), and also a great credit to thee people who were responsible for its erection. Mr. O'Connor then called on Mrs. B. A. McCosker, of Cherry Tree Hill, to perform the unveiling of the Honor Roll. Mrs. McCosker has only recently paid the great sacrifice by losing her son Private B. H. McCosker, at the front.
