The hall commemorates those who served in World War One and World War Two. It was previously known as the Gawler Blocks Memorial Hall.

In August of last year a district hall for Gawler Blocks was mooted, and a Progress Committee was formed; on Tuesday evening of this week the hall was officially opened, the ceremony being attended by a large and enthusiastic crowd, £20 being taken at doors. Urged by the school teacher, Mr. L. M. Webb, the residents— men and women — rapidly developed the community spirit, and set to work to raise money by all means of community effort. A sub-committee was deputed to buy one of the military huts at Sandy Creek, and at the dispersal sale secured a hut 105 x 42 at a cost of £275. Tenders were invited for dismantling and re erecting at the Blocks, a district resident, Mr. H W. R. Wiese, builder and contractor, securing the work at £245. The land had previously been most generously given by Mr. Murray Hillier, the block (adjoining the school) being large enough to permit also of a couple of tennis courts if the Progress Committee so desire.

The dedication of the hall was carried out in the soldiers' ceremony of 'They shall grow not old,' the large audience standing in silence in memory of the fallen.
