Northbridge Memorial Clock Print Page Print this page

Northbridge Memorial Clock was originally erected in memory of those who paid the supreme sacrifice in World War Two. Funding was received in 2014 to restore and upgrade the memorial. On the 11th November 2014, additional plaques were added to the memorial bearing the names of servicemen who died in both World Wars.

The Memorial Clock to the men of Northbridge who died in World War Two was unveiled by the Governor of New South Wales, Lieutenant- General Northcott on the 8th May 1948. The money for the Memorial Clock was raised by the Northbridge Women's Comforts Fund.

At a ceremony on 11th November 2014 two new bronze plaques will be unveiled on the sandstone War Memorial Clock tower in Strathallen Ave, Northbridge. The plaques will bear the names of three servicemen from Northbridge who gave their lives in World War I and 36 who died in World War II. (There were no service women from Northbridge who died in either war).

The plaques, donated by the Rotary Club of Northbridge, will be unveiled by Willoughby Mayor Gail Giles-Gidney and the ceremony will be attended by Sailors Bay Ward Councillors, Council officers, RSL representatives and Northbridge residents. Willoughby Library staff is currently trying to identify descendants of the fallen who could attend. The plaques were researched and donated by the Rotary Club of Northbridge. The President of the club, Noel Phelan, said that the club wanted to contribute to the commemoration of World War I and the Gallipoli landings 100 years ago.
