The Roman Catholic chapel was erected in memory of the Officers and Men of the Royal Australian Navy who died in service or were killed in action during World War One and World War Two. The Chapel was opened and blessed by Archbishop Mannix on the 10th October 1948. 

The Chapel of Our Lady, Star of the Sea, Flinders Naval Depot, Crib Point, Victoria, will be solemnly blessed by His Grace the Archbishop of Melbourne, Most Rev. D. Mannix, D.D., LL.D., at 3 p.m., on Sunday, October 10. The first public Mass will be celebrated in the new chapel at 10.45 a.m. on Monday, October 11, 1948. It will be a Solemn Requiem Mass, and will be offered for the repose of the souls of personnel of the Royal Australian Navy who gave their lives in the two world wars. The chapel has been erected by the Catholic people of Australia to perpetuate their memory.
