Chifley College Bidwill Campus Cenotaph & Commemorative GardenPrint Page
The commemorative garden features rosemary and poppies.
Another permanent reminder of what we stand for was unveiled this month by Chifley federal Labour MP Ed Music at our 100 Years of Rememberance Ceremony on Thursday, November 15. We have built a cenotaph and commemorative garden to acknowledge and honour the memory of all soldiers from the area who have served in any war.
There was also WWII veteran, bagpiper, bugler, Aboriginal smoking ceremoney and St Marys RSL sub branch secretary Tony Fryer and Mt Druitt Historical Society's Hazel Magann also attended the unveiling.
Sunday, November 11 was the Remembrance Day, which marked the 100th anniversary of the armistice which ended the WWI- the day when the guns fell silent after fours years of continuous warfare.
It is a day when we remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice to protect this nation.
We hope that our community in Bidwill and beyond will bear witness to our school's respect for families and friends of those who are descended from the soldiers who are named on the monuments. We would like as many people as possible to join us remembering those who gave their lives so that future generations will have a place to live.
The cenotaph was funded via $20,000 from the Department of Veteran's Affairs Centenary Grants Program.
