The chapel commemorates former students of the college who have served in the various conflicts in which Australia has been involved.

The Chapel was constructed in 1955 after a public appeal for funds begun in 1945. A competition was launched for the design of a non-denominational Memorial Chapel to commemorate students who served and died on active service during the South African (Boer War), World War One and World War Two.

Above the entrance is a Waikerie limestone sculpture by John Dowie depicting a young soldier discarding his uniform in readiness to return to the land.

A committee to arrange an appeal for £5,000 towards the building of a memorial chapel at Roseworthy Agricultural College was formed at a meeting in the Lord Mayor's room today. The proposed chapel will be in memory of 64 ex-students of the college who have fallen in this and the last war. Mr. F. W. Cornell. who, in conjunction with the college principal (Dr. A. R. Callaghan), devised the scheme, presented £500 towards the fund. Nearly £1,500 has already been raised. The Minister for Agriculture (Mr. Jenkins) said that Cabinet was in unanimous agreement with the scheme. He felt that the Government would not let the committee down in the matter of subsidies, provided the support promised by those interested was forthcoming. The committee formed at today's meeting is: Sir Angas Parsons. Messrs. Norman Brookman, Norman Jude, G. Jenkins, A. Melrose. J. M. Irwin, O. Bowden, F. W. Cornell. R. G. Horwood. J. A. Kelly. F. S. Mann. R. H. Martin. H. R. Pinkerton. L. N. Salter. E. C. H. SchInckel. A. C. Strempel, J. Dobson SeLlars, R. Hazelgrove. K. Wilkinson, M. G. Rankin. and Dr. A. R. Callaghan. Mr. Cornell was appointed chairman and Mr. B. C. Philp honorary secretary.
