The flagpole commemorates the 100th anniversary of Armistice which signified the end of World War One and is dedicated to all Commonwealth service men and women who have served in conflicts in which Australia has been involved. 

The Armistice of 11 November 1918 was the armistice signed at Le Francport near Compiègne that ended fighting on land, sea and air in World War One between the Allies and their last remaining opponent, Germany.
