The monument commemorates the residents of Taroom District who served in World War One, World War Two, the Vietnam War, the peacekeeping mission in Timor Leste, and the conflict in Afghanistan.

The new monument was unveiled on Vietnam Veterans Remembrance Day on the 18th August 2019. It replaces the original monument which was unveiled in 1973. 

Funding of $28,532 was received in 2018 through the Armistice Centenary Grants Program for the intsallation of the memorial.
