Centenary Walk
The 76 memorial pines have been divided into groups along the reserve as an abstraction of the parade ground symbolising the protection of the intrenal space. In line with the military`s symbolism, the internal space is referred to as "hallowed ground" representing the parade ground as a respected sanctuary of a unit`s fallen soldiers.
This abstraction and reinterpretation of the military parade ground along the rail corridor represents a tribute to our fallen soldiers, the memorial pines standing together in a show of strength and comradery protecting the community that walks between them in the internal space.
Including World War I, World War II and the Vietnam War there were 76 fallen soldiers from the Wallaroo District and a memorial pine is planted in honour of each of these soldiers.
