Mindarie Honour RollPrint Page
The brass honour roll commemorates those from Mindarie who served in World War One and World War Two.
The Mindarie servicemen of both World Wars were honoured on the evening of November 8, when an honour roll, with all their names inscribed, and photos of the servicemen of the last war, were unveiled by the Minister of Lands (Hon. C. S. Hincks). The stage and windows were beautifully decorated with flowers and fern. The Mindarie Orchestra supplied the music for dancing, and Mr. R. Hoskins was MC. The chairman of the Mindarie Soldiers' Welcome Home Society (Mr. A. R. Hoskins) spoke of the outstanding efforts achieved by the Local Patriotic funds. The splendid sum of £1,149/9/8 had been collected during the six war years. The Mindarie district has a population of approximately 47 people, making the following figures a proud achievement: Mindarie S.W. Committee £193; L. Manfa Fund £69; Red Cross £887/9/8.
In addition 427 knitted articles were made and forwarded to Red Cross Headquarters and 84 for the local men in the Services, making a total of 511 garments. The chairman specially thanked Mrs. Coumbo's Orchestra which had officiated at 44 Soldiers Patriotic functions free of charge. The next speaker was Mr. T. C. Stott MP. The chairman then introduced Hon. Mr. Hincks, a veteran of World War I. After the ceremony had been performed, the"Last Post" was sounded, followed by "They Shall Grow Not Old", "Lest We Forget," and "Reveille." Mr. T. M.G. Vowles moved a vote of thanks to Mr. Hincks for unveiling the roll and also for honouring the district with his presence. Mr. L. Mann M.M. supported Mr. Vowles' remarks. A delicious home-made supper was prepared by the local ladies.
