St John’s War Memorial ChurchPrint Page
St John`s Church was erected in 1956 as a war memorial to commemorate those who have served in the various conflicts in which Australia has been involved.
Fundraising efforts were begun in the early 1950’s to make the St John’s War Memorial Church of England a reality. The Foundation Stone was blessed by the Right Reverend A. L. Wylde, Bishop of Bathurst and laid by Lieutenant-General Sir John Northcott, Governor of New South Wales on October 29, 1955.
The architect Norman MacPherson embodied the Apostle Saint John into the design of the church at the time. The church was opened and dedicated on October 27, 1956.
