The monument commemorates those who have served in the various conflicts in which Australia has been involved.

It was originally erected to commemorate those who served in World War One with the names of those who served World War Two, the Vietnam War and the Afghanistan conlfict added at a later date. 

ADELONG, Monday. Mr. Ball, Minister for Works, unveiled a beautiful monument to the memory of returned and fallen soldiers in Adelong Park on Sunday. The monument takes the form of an Australian soldier standing on a pedestal, with the names of all local enlistments on the monument. The monument was subscribed for locally, and cost nearly £500. A large gathering was present at the unveiling.
