Loyal Mitchell Lodge Roll of HonourPrint Page
The honour roll commemorates members of the Loyal Mitchell Lodge M.U.I.O.O.F. who served in World War One and World War Two. The roll was originally unveiled in memory of those who served in World War One with the names of those who served in World War Two added to the roll at a later date.
The Loyal Mitchell Lodge of the Manchester Unity of Oddfellows was established at Bairnsdale 52 years ago. The jubilee anniversary of the date of the foundation therefore occurred two years ago. The Great War was however then still in progress. Many of the brethren of the lodge were still on active service abroad, doing loyal and patriotic service. That was felt to be no time for the celebration of rejoicinigs, even over the career of this the oldest friendly society in Bairnsdale. Celebration of the jubilee was therefore postponed, amid was held over until last Thursday night when there was a fine gathering in the mechanics of the brethren and their lady friends and others to commemorate the great occasion; also to welcome home the soldier brethren who had returned to do honor to the memory of those who had fallen in this field, and to witness the unveiling of the honor roll, which perpetuates the names of the 36 soldier brethren who had served their country, and specially - the twelve who were numbered among the slain.
