Wentworthville Memorial Park Print Page
The park commemorates those who have served in the various conflicts in which Australia has been involved.
The Harcourt Estate, Wentworthville, has been purchased for conversion into a Memorial Park in honor of local men and women of the services. Comprising about 41 acres, the land adjoins the Soldiers' Club in Dunmore Street. The price is £955. Holroyd Council has agreed to pay half this price, and through Alderman Frank Hill, M.L.A., is asking the Government to make a grant of the other half. A plan drawn up by the engineer (Mr. Ryan) provides for a bowling green, tennis courts, swimming pool, croquet lawn, basketball and vigoro playing areas, draughts and chess tables. An ambitious beautification scheme will be a feature of the plans being formed by the committee, which has arranged a carnival to be held on April 12, 13, and 14, when every organisation in Wentworthville will take part. "We appeal to every citizen to help, so that this park will be a worthy memorial to the boys and girls of the forces from Wentworthville and district," the president (Alderman G. E. Maunder) said this week.
