The Memorial Wall commemorates those from Logan Village who have served in conflicts in which Australia has been involved.

The wall consists of a series of painted scenes which depict conflicts in which Australia was involved.

The wartime sacrifices of former students at Logan Village State School and others from the town are remembered in a mural at the Logan Village RSL. The 18m painting by artist Jeff Barrie has depicted conflicts from Gallipoli up to recent involvements in the Middle East, with imagery of the old Logan Village State School building signifying the area’s connection to Australia’s military history.

Logan Village RSL Sub Branch president Garry Alterator said the idea to commemorate Logan Village troops came from talks with the Logan Village Museum six years ago.  “It is in remembrance of those who left Logan Village to fight,” he said.

Logan Village Community Centre vice president Wendy Duke said a number of the town’s men enlisted in WWI, with seven of the 31 former Logan Village State School students not returned home. She said they were country boys, many who had never seen the ocean before.  They returned home as battle-wearied men if they were lucky, compared to their brothers-in-arms killed-in-action.

Included in the wall are WWI efforts at Gallipoli and Beersheba, the WWII defensive at Kokoda helped by PNG’s Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels, the Vietnam War, peacekeeping missions at Somalia and Rwanda and involvement at Iraq and Afghanistan.
