The hall commemorates those who have served in the various conflicts in which Australia has been involved.

COPMANHURST, Thurs. — It appears that Copmanhurst and district are to realise the fulfillment of one of their most cherished hopes — that of seeing this prosperous centre of the Upper Clarence River dignified by the presence of a public building worthy both of its fighting men, and of the great-hearted ones whose untiring and unsung labours have made this district what it is today. It is hoped that, in the near future, a start will be made in the construction of a new building, the Copmanhurst and District War Memorial Hall.

The plans are being drawn by the Shire Engineer (Mr. H. L McGuigan) who has donated his services to this work. In an endeavour to incorporate in the building any new features of a helpful nature, the committee decided that an inspection be made during the present month, of the halls at Casino and Mallanganee respectively. The members of the party of inspection are to consist of the president of the Hall Committee (Mr. A. J. Wedlock), the secretary (Mr. C. M. Gittors) and the Copmanhurst Shire Engineer. It was decided to hold a sports meeting and rodeo at Copmanhurst on April 19, 1947, to augment the funds. The programme is to be the same as that drawn up for the fixture set down for September, which, owing to dry conditions, unhappily lapsed.
