Tannymorel & District Honour RollPrint Page
The marble honour roll commemorates those from Tannymorel and District who served in World War Two and the Korean War.
On Sunday afternoon residents of Tannymorel and surrounding districts assembled at the School of Arts for the unveiling of the war memorial, the ceremony being performed by Mr. O. O. Madsen. M.L.A. The Warwick Thistle Pipe Band was in attendance and after playing several suitable numbers, Mr. Geo. Russell, chairman of the Tannymorel War Memorial Committee, addressed the gathering. Mr. Russell said that owing to lack of material and supplies the task of reconditioning the School of Arts had been held up considerably, but at last it was nearing completion. The building had been lined and painted and a front verandah erected. A new water tank would be erected soon. He thanked those who had made donations, and said that any further donations would be gratefully received to cover the cost of any minor additions to be made.
Cr. J. H. Hansen (chairman of the Glengallan Shire Council) congratulated Mr. Russell, and his committee and all who helped by donations or otherwise in the establishment of this memorial to the fallen soldiers. The building would serve a useful purpose, as well as being a reminder of those who had paid the supreme sacrifice. His remarks were endorsed by Crs. R. Millward and T. Grayson. Mr. O. O. Madsen. M. L.A., addressed the gathering and asked all to enter the building where he unveiled the war memorial bearing the names of those who served in World War II and one in the Korean War. A minute's silence was observed, and Piper McColst piped "The Lament," and those present sang the National Anthem. This completed the formal proceedings, and all adjourned to the marquee erected outside for a basket picnic afternoon tea.
