Old Scholars Honour RollPrint Page
The honour roll commemorates former students of the school who served in the South African (Boer) War and World War One.
Empire Day was celebrated at the Bagdad State-school in the presence of a large attendance of the public. The children were first assembled round the flagstaff, where the Empire Day pledge was recited. The flag was then lowered to half-mast, and the names of the fallen were read out by the head teacher and a tribute paid to them. After an impressive silence the flag was again raised and "Rule, Britannia" sung. The scholars were then marched into school, where an old scholars' honour board was unveiled by the Warden (Mr. T. J. Eddington). Colonel Chalmers (an old scholar), president of R.S.S.I.L.A., responded, and a programme suitable to the day and occasion was very effectively given by the scholars.
The Rev. Wallbank (Congregational minister) spoke on the meaning of Empire Day, and urged all present to be loyal to the old flag. The school band, after playing several patriotic airs, concluded the function with the National Anthem. Sweets were provided by the Warden.
