Dedication
In memory of the Australian Merchant Navy 1939 - 1945 & U. S. Army Small Ships Section 1942 - 1947
During World War II the Australian Merchant Navy supplied Allied troops in Europe, Africa, and throughout the Pacific. More than 32.000 Allied merchant seafarers pad the supreme sacrifice.
From 1942 Australian civilians aged 15 – 80 years served US Army Small Ships Section supporting allied troops throughout the South West Pacific area with a fleet of wooden sailing ships, trawlers, tug-boats, and crews unfit for military service. Small Ships Section played a decisive role supporting the New Guinea campaign and during the liberation of the Philippines.
Some of us have reached the years, when memories are very dear.,
Of shipmates and comradeship that grew in strength from ship to ship.
But mates are lost be at peace or war, doing a job they`ve done years before,
Some died young, others old, good shipmates all be they meek or bold.
So let me raise my voice today, to a shipmate who has passed away,
Remembering him as I knew him then, and feeling sorry we are not sailing the oceans together again.
