100 Years of ANZACPrint Page
The monument commemorates 100 years of ANZAC (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) since World War One and honours the service and sacrifice of Australians during World War One and subsequent conflicts during a century of service.
The base of the memorial is two tiers of grey coloured concrete. Mounted on the top tier are four black polished granite "blade-stones", located at each of the cardinal points of the compass. Laid in the centre of this upper tier is a black granite centre-stone, 800mm square, with the badge of the Australian Commonwealth Military Forces of the First World War era etched into the surface. Etchings on the obverse faces of the "blade-stones" list each of the services: Navy, Army, Air Force and Women's Services, and the reverse faces include a historic First World War image appropriate to each of the services. There are also two flagpoles.
Funding of $10,000 was received from the ANZAC Centenary Grants Program for the construction of the memorial.
The Centenary of ANZAC 2014 to 2018 was an important period of national commemoration for Australia. Marking 100 years since our involvement in World War I, the ANZAC Centenary was a time to honour the service and sacrifice of our original ANZACs, and the generations of Australian servicemen and women who have defended our values and freedoms, in wars, conflicts and peace operations throughout a Century of Service.
