On 11th September 1873,Geelong's first reticulated water supply developed by the Water Supply Department of Victoria, was turned on at the Geelong Infirmary and Benevolent Asylum. At a function to honour the centenary of this important event, the plaque was presented by the Geelong Waterworks and Sewerage Trust to the Geelong Hospital 11th September 1973.
