Commemorates children (John, William, Elizabeth and Michael Murphy) of shepherders who were burnt to death when the shepherd`s hut caught fire on 9 February 1863.

The burial site remain unmarked until a subsequent owner of the property became aware of the story. He erected a fence around the site and planted pines, and the Ararat Historical Society erected the plaque.

"In memory - John Murphy 9 years; William Murphy 6 years; Elizabeth Murphy 4 years; Michael Murphy 2 years, who perished in a house fire at Gledfield 9th Feb. 1863, 100 metres from this site. Their parents were Michael and Catherine Murphy. Plaque erected by Ararat and District Historical Society".
