Archdeacon Charles Capel GreenwayPrint Page Print this page

A window commemorates Charles Capel Greenway (1818-1905), archdeacon.

Charles Capel Greenway  was active in the affairs of the diocese of Grafton and Armidale and in 1874-79 a member of the Diocesan Council. In 1878 his appointment to Grafton reflected Bishop James Turner's high opinion of his work. Much of the credit for building Christ Church Cathedral at Grafton was due to Greenway's persistent efforts. In May 1882 he was appointed the first archdeacon of Grafton , a position he would hold until he returned to Sydney in 1895.

Grafton, Monday.  Canon Seymour unveiled the memorial windows at the Anglican Cathedral yesterday to Archdeacon Greenway, Mr. and Mrs. F. Doberer, and Mr. Gosper.
