The cairn commemorates the work of Archdeacon Benjamin Glennie (1812 - 1900). The cairn was unveiled in 1940 as part of the Darling Downs Centenary Celebration
Benjamin Glennie first visited the Darling Downs in 1848 (when it was part of the Moreton Bay parish) and in 1850 he was installed as incumbent for the district. The first parsonage and Church were located at Drayton with Glennie visiting other areas on the Darling Downs. Glennie was a well loved and respected figure not only on the Darling Downs but in the context of the whole colony.

Dedicated Jan. 23, 1859
Directly opposite stood the first church building on the Darling Downs a combined parsonage and church where services were held, Nov. 14. 1851 to Jan. 23. 1859.
This memorial was dedicated by the Ven. Archdeacon W. P. Glover March 31, 1940.
