The Olney Bell commemorates Flying officer Lesley Olney  a RAAF officer who served in the Katherine area during World War Two. He was killed in an aircraft crash at South Goulburn Island in 1943.

The bell was erected by former officers of R.A.A.F Survey and Design UNit whose headquarters were located at the Old  Katherine High School .The bell was relocated to the cenotaph in 1989.
